The Catenian Association is a social organisation of Catholic professional and businessmen. It has about 11,000 members world-wide and is centred in England with some 23 active provinces and 300+ groups known as Circles in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Africa and Malta.
The Association exists primarily :
- To foster brotherly love among its members
- To develop social bonds among its members and their families,
- To assist young Catholics in the choice or pursuit of a career
- To administer benevolent funds for its members and their families
- To encourage members to participate in Catholic Action
This year we celebrate the Centenary of the founding of the first Circle, Manchester (1). The Association began life as the Chums Benevolent Association in 1908 with the encouragement and approval of Bishop Casartelli, fourth Bishop of Salford. The name was changed to The Catenian Association in 1910. There are now about 300 Circles in existence, providing an environment for Catholic business and professional men to meet socially and to encourage and assist each other and their families.
