It seems that the Government “roadmap” for emerging from lockdown is on track, with the next major change coming tomorrow (Monday 12th April) with the reopening of non-essential retail and other relaxations. This makes me think it is time to reassess our weekly timetable, and look at some changes of our own. I am going to be off all next week, so there will be no Mass next Wednesday, but the following week I am planning to move us back to “in person” Masses on weekdays, and end the daily YouTube Masses. Since people will be free to visit hairdressers and gyms and most shops, I think it is the right time for people to be able to come back to Church on weekdays—especially since most over 50s will have received at least one vaccination shot, and our Covid-secure rules are still in place, making Church one of the safest places to visit! So from Tuesday 20th April there will be public Mass at 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays. In line with this, I will be ending the weekday YouTube Masses: it is with some reluctance that I do this, as many people have told me they have been a great source of support for many during the past year, but filming, editing and uploading takes up a great deal of time, which I now need to use for other things—such as the “catching-up” with a year’s delayed baptisms and two year’s worth of First Communion programmes! There are still plenty of live-streamed Mass available every day on the internet, and with “in-person” masses resuming on weekdays I hope people will still be able to find daily spiritual nourishment as we emerge from this lockdown.
Obviously all this might change, as we have experienced in the past  (how we have come to know words like “variants” and “mutations”!) so please make sure you keep in touch with the Newsletter and the website where any alterations to our schedule will be announced. And please remember to pray: to pray for our emergence from these restrictions, to pray for those who are still nervous about venturing out, to pray that people are sensible and cautious and respect the rules, and to pray for all who have been and still affected by the pandemic. Thank you

  • With my constant prayers and best wishes, Father James

Please pray at home, watch YouTube or online services if you can, and if the vaccination programme does all that has been promised it won’t be long before we are heading back to some degree of normality. In the meantime, please stay safe!

Please pray for each other, and especially those who are ill or afraid.
If you require help please do not hesitate to telephone
