THE CATENIAN ASSOCIATION - PROVINCE 1

Oldham

Oldham Circle is the 140th Circle of the Catenian Association and was inaugurated on 6th of October 1949 as the daughter Circle of Rochdale

We meet on the fourth (third in December) Wednesday of the month at Werneth Cricket Club on Chamber Road, Oldham. It is a Leo and Veronica Caseysocial occasion for our members and visitors, at which a buffet is served following a short meeting.

The Catenian Association is not geared towards Catholic Action or, indeed, to major charitable fundraising. However, all brothers are encouraged to join and to assist Catholic organisations. In Oldham Circle, we are particularly proud of the activities of our brothers. Past Provincial President Brian Hampshire is chief organiser of the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage and with other Oldham brothers has been closely involved with this Pilgrimage for many years. We have provided at least one doctor to support the pilgrims and helpers for almost 50 years.

Joint Ladies Evening with Oldham 2011

With the benefit of having an excellent venue on our doorstep at the White Hart, we got together last year with Rochdale Circle to hold a joint Ladies Evening, which proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable occasion.

Pictured right are Grand President Vernon De Cruz, the Provincial Presidents of Province 1, John Woodhouse, and 17, Warren Coleman, Province 1 Director, Paul Mainon, as well as the President of Rochdale, Dave Parkinson and our own President, Graham Winnard, and their wives.

We celebrated a major milestone in the Oldham Diamond Jubileehistory of Oldham Circle of the Catenian Association last year with our Diamond Jubilee.

Brother Grand President Joe McNally (pictured front centre) joined the brothers of Oldham Circle for our celebrations along with many visiting brothers.

As with all other circles, we organise a wide range of social activities in addition to the usual functions.
